Bustling Brisbane

Brisbane is a vibrant city with lots to offer.

Brisbane is Queensland's beautiful capital city, the gateway to the Gold Coast, the Sunshine Coast and beyond.

Stay a few nights or longer to enjoy the city with it's downtown hub of shops and restaurants, the magnificent cultural precinct of South Bank or travel along the lovely Brisbane River by day or night.

A little History
For years Brisbane was a poor cousin to the more affluent southern state capitals of Sydney and Melbourne. It was seen as a point for Queensland’s exports, a place to house politicians and not a lot more, as it suffered floods and was seen as a bit remote. However, this has changed markedly in the past 3 decades.

A major flood in 1974 resulted in a dam project to protect the city which meant new houses could be constructed in old and low lying areas, and a whole new style developed. During the 80’s the city hosted the Commonwealth Games and in 1988 World Expo, which saw a transformation to a modern and cosmopolitan city. The place hasn’t looked back, with the state and federal economy booming, tourism numbers ever increasing, and a northerly shift in population, Brisbane has come to life.

It’s a happening place…
We just love the way everything happens al fresco style in Queen St Mall, South Bank and Eagle St Pier.  During the day these places are a hub for shoppers and sightseeing, and in the evenings the nightlife spills out onto the streets as diners and clubbers make the most of those balmy evenings.

Mention must be made of the climate. The summer months have high temperatures and humidity, however the autumn, winter and spring are delightful. This period offers cool nights and daytime temperatures in the low 20’s and day after day of clear blue skies. Of course it does rain, and heavily sometimes. But generally, apart from the summer months, the dry season means an envious environment for residents and visitors; there’s nary a brolly to be seen.
